It is located in Nairobi on a 12-acre land and is home to the land’s tallest mammal, the giraffe. The Rothschild’s giraffe is the particular giraffe species resident at the Manor. The giraffe Manor started as a hunting lodge after it was established in 1932. In the 1970’s it slowly transcended into a conservation center for the then-endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. After years of conservation and breeding programs, the number of Rothschild giraffes has steadily increased over the years.
The Rothschild’s giraffe experience is a key attraction at the giraffe manor. While here you get to enjoy one-on-one moments with these giants feeding, interacting, and getting to know more about them. The resident giraffes at the Manor visit in the morning and evening hours and are habituated and therefore used to human beings’ presence. Here you get to feed them or dine with them as they move their long beautiful heads through the large windows at the Manor.
Near the Giraffe Manor is the Giraffe Center. This is a sanctuary that has a forest where the giraffes get to enjoy their natural setting. The Rift Valley Lake is a great birding safari destination and is famous for flamingos. The flamingo population at Lake Nakuru reduced but the Lake is still an excellent birding destination. It is home to over 500 bird species including great white pelicans, grey-crowned cranes, and western reef herons among others.
