Getting there

Entebbe international Airport is Uganda’s main airport located in Central Uganda along the shores of Lake Victoria. This is the main base for Air travel and the airport is served by various airlines. Some of these include Uganda Airlines, Qatar Airways, RwandAir, Kenya Airways, Turkish Airways, and Ethiopian Airlines among others.

The country can also be accessed by road transport coming from Kenya, Rwanda, and DRC via the Various land borders. Lake Victoria is shared among three major countries Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania however water transport among the three is not yet fully utilized.

The People

Uganda is a culturally diverse country with over 50 ethnic tribes each with a unique culture and heritage. This makes the country one of the best cultural destinations. Cultural tours in Uganda feature folks and traditional performances as well as culinary of the different delicacies around the country.

Ugandan people are very hospitable and easy to get along with. Communication is very easy especially for English speakers but native languages are widely spoken in the Country.

Climate

The Great Lakes region has one of the best climatic conditions receiving sunshine throughout the year. There are two main seasons, the wet and dry season. The dry season stretches from June to late October and from December to mid march. During this Time of the year, rainfall is very minimal and this is the best time for a wildlife safari.

The rainy season from April to May and November has higher chances of rainfall with a chance of occurring anytime of the day. Tours are possible during this time of the year especially birding featuring migratory birds from as far as Europe.

Visa Policy

Visitors intending to explore Uganda must apply for an online visa or get one from a Ugandan diplomatic mission. Uganda also has a number of bilateral agreements with various countries that determine the Visa policy for the country with some being Visa exempt. Citizens from the East African community say Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania for example don’t require a visa while entering Uganda.

With the E-Visa system in place, it is advisable for travellers coming from countries that require a visa to apply in advance. For tourists, the single entry Visa costing $50 per person is highly advisable and is valid for 30 days.

Incase one is visiting for more than 30 days they can apply for the Multiple entry Visa costing $100 per person. The East African tourist Visa is another option that is multiple entry giving one access to Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. This also costs $100 per person and has to be applied from the first country of the 3 one enters.

The wildlife viewing in Uganda is generally excellent throughout the year, with no significant mammal migrations and consistent rainfall thanks to the equatorial location. It is best to avoid the wettest months of October, November, April, and May but even those times can provide excellent wildlife encounters provided you can cope with the occasional heavy downpour.
