The 10-Day Southern Tanzania Safari is a remarkable Discovery Journeys adventure to the remote southern part of Tanzania. Much as Tanzania is a renowned tourist destination, it is the northern circuit that is most famous with destinations like Serengeti National Park, Tarangire National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater among others. The northern part is most famous because of the wildebeest migration, big five mammals, and big cats experience. This has over the years left the southern sector not fully explored even though it has diverse wildlife, landscapes, culture, and many other unique attractions.

On this 10-day Southern Tanzania Safari, you will therefore take on the less traveled adventure paths of the remote south. You will start your adventure journeys in Nyerere National Park the largest park in Tanzania and East Africa in general. The African wild dog one of the rarest carnivores can be seen here. Big cats especially lions and leopards and cheetahs are also present here. The game drives you will undertake here will allow you to see these and many other wildlife species.

A boat cruise along the Rufigi River is one to look out for. Here you will get to see birds, Hippos, crocodiles, and other aquatic wildlife species. Wildlife photographers and enthusiasts are best catered for in this park. It was once known as the Selous Game Reserve until it was upgraded to a national park level.

After the safari adventures in Nyerere, you will continue with your 10-day Southern Tanzania Safari to Mikumi National Park. This is another incredible destination down south with big cats, some of the big five mammals, birds, and various plant species among others. After the safari here proceed to Udzungwa Mountains National Park for bird watching and then end the safari with Ruaha National Park.

Day 1: Transfer to Nyerere National Park & Boat Cruise

You will be picked up from your Hotel in Dar es Salaam for a scenic drive to Nyerere National Park. This is a relatively long drive but you will have en route stopovers for photography at areas of interest. Later proceed to arrive in time for lunch and later go for a boat cruise along Rufigi River. Here you will see a number of wildlife including crocodiles, hippos, and birds among others. Later head to your lodge for Dinner & Overnight. Accommodation; Africa Safari Selous

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drives

Start this day with an early morning game drive to catch up with the early risers. You will see a number of these and also enjoy the sunrise. You will get great moments for safari photography and create the best safari moments ever. You will then have your packed lunch and spend the afternoon on game drives. In the evening you will head back to your lodge for Dinner & Overnight.

Day 3: Game Drives & Transfer to Mikumi National Park

You will have breakfast at your lodge and a brief game drive as you transfer to Mikumi National Park. The drive is about 6 to 7 hours with stopovers for photography and a picnic lunch break. Arrive in the afternoon and proceed to your lodge for rest amidst the sighting of some wildlife species. Dinner & Overnight at Camp Bastian Mikumi

Day 4: Full Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

Head out after an early morning breakfast for a safari to explore the best of Mikumi National Park. Expect to see wildlife species including hartebeests, wildebeests, antelopes, zebras, lions, hippos, and a number of birds. You will have a picnic lunch break and in the afternoon proceed with the safari game drives. In the evening return to your lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Udzungwa Mountains & Nature walk

After breakfast at your lodge, you will depart for Udzungwa Mountains National Park arriving in the afternoon for a lunch break. After lunch you will go for a guided nature walk in the forests where you will see a number of birds and some primates. You will also hike towards the Sanje waterfalls where you will have great views of Kilombero Valley. Later head to your lodge for Dinner & Overnight. Accommodation; Camp Bastian Mikumi

Day 6: Transfer to Ruaha National Park & Game Drive

You will have an early breakfast at your lodge and then head out for a transfer to Ruaha National Park. The drive is a long one through the Tanzanian countryside. You will have en route stopovers for photography and a lunch break and then proceed to the park arriving in the afternoon. Check in at your lodge and later go for game drives in the evening to see the various wildlife in the park. Dinner & Overnight at Ruaha HillTop Lodge

Day 7: Full-Day Game Drives

On this Day you will head out with your packed lunch for Discovery Journeys in the vast Ruaha National Park. Start early morning to catch up with the early risers, especially the big cats. You will see a number of wildlife here including zebras, hippos, hartebeests, and giraffes among others. Have a lunch break and spend the afternoon exploring the park. Later return to your lodge. Day 8: Safaris in Ruaha

This will be the second day of exploring Ruaha National Park. Have an early morning breakfast and head out following other trials in the park. You will see various wildlife species including those you missed seeing the previous Day. The park is also a birders' haven and you will be able to see a number of birds here. Later return to your lodge. Dinner & Overnight at Ruaha HillTop Lodge

Day 9: Nature Walk & Transfer to Mikumi National Park

After breakfast at your lodge you will go for a guided nature walk in the park. You get up close with wildlife seeing the many species and later have a lunch break and exit for a transfer to Mikumi National Park. This is to reduce the drive distance back to Dar es Salaam. Dinner & Overnight at Camp Bastian Mikumi

Day 10: Departure

You will have breakfast and a game drive as you exit the park for a transfer back to Dar es Salaam. Arrive in the afternoon for a drop off at the airport for departure or Hotel depending on the schedule.
