Tour Du Rwanda is back this time bigger and better. It is Africa’s leading cyclist and among the most celebrated sports events. Tour du Rwanda is held every year and this will be the 16th Edition. The event brings together local and international cyclists in an incredible cycling race and adventure.

This year’s Tour Du Rwanda is scheduled from the 18th to the 24th of February. It will have 8 different stages in Rwanda’s iconic locations enabling you to discover more about the country.

About Tour Du Rwanda

Tour Du Rwanda is a cycling race through the land of a thousand. It was at first a regional race that brought together cyclists from the East African region. In 2008, the cyclist event started drawing in cyclists from beyond the African continent. It now risen ranks and is among Africa’s top cycling races.

Tour Du Rwanda will have 8 stages with the first being in Kigali. It will start from the BK Arena in Kigali and end at the Kigali Convention Center covering 18 kilometers. On this route, you will be able to fully explore Kigali City and its major highlights. Kigali is Africa’s cleanest and greenest city and the cycling race there is refreshing and relaxing.

Stage two will cover the hilly southwestern Rwanda part. It will start from Muhanga and end in Kibeho covering a distance of 130 kilometers. This route is historic and adventurous as you cycle through the Rwandan countryside. Tour Du Rwanda’s stage three will start from Huye and end in Rusizi. It will cover a distance of 141 kilometers through Nyungwe Forest. The Forest is Rwanda’s leading destination for chimpanzee trekking and among Africa’s oldest forests.

Stage Four will start from Karongi to Rubavu covering a distance of 92 kilometers. One of the most anticipated stages is stage five. It will start from Musanze and end in Kinigi at the Kwita Izina Grounds. This Five Volcanoes area is impressive and home to the rare mountain gorillas.

The next stage (stage six) will start in Musanze and end at Mont Kigali covering 93 kilometers. Stage seven will cover 163 kilometers from Rukomo to Kayonza. The final stage will cover Kigali starting and ending at the Kigali Convention Center covering 90 kilometers.

Rwanda Tour destinations

The Tour du Rwanda race is one ticket to explore Rwanda’s iconic tour destinations. The Cycling routing and stages cover the whole of Rwanda but this alone might not be enough. You can use the opportunity to explore destinations like Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking.

Volcanoes National Park is home to mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, birds, and other mammal species. It has the highest mountain gorilla population in the Virunga massif and is one of the best gorilla trekking destinations. Rwanda recently announced a discount on mountain gorilla trekking permits for all African citizens. They are now to pay $500 from $1500. East Africans and Rwandan citizens also have a great discount and are to pay only $200 per person.

Tour du Rwanda covers part of Lake Kivu and you can therefore have an excursion on Lake Kivu. You can take a boat cruise to the hot springs, Kayak on the Lake, or relax at the beach. Nyungwe National Park is another Rwanda tour destination you can check out. This is the best for birding and chimpanzee trekking. In case you have more time you can extend your stay long and also visit Akagera National Park.

Rwanda is a fast-developing sporting destination. It has hosted Africa’s Basket Ball League so an event like Tour Du Rwanda is not surprising. Visa Policy

Rwanda has the most user-friendly Visa policy. It is an open one for all citizens and you can get it upon arrival at the airport or border. It is free of charge to East African Citizens and one can stay up to three months in the country.

For other international visitors, it costs $30 for a single entry and $60 for a multiple-entry visa. In case you intend to Visit Uganda and Kenya alongside Rwanda, you can opt for the East African tourist Visa. This is valid for 90 days and can give you access to the three East African countries.
