On the 3-day Kahuzi Biega tour you will visit Kahuzi Biega National Park in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The park was named after the two dormant Volcanic mountains of Kahuzi and Biega and has diverse wildlife species. Eastern lowland gorillas are the most outstanding wildlife species here. They are endemic to the park meaning this is the only place you can see them. Lowland gorilla trekking is the major activity done in the Park.

A lot of the Congo is not yet fully explored and Discovery Journeys there are among the most exclusive ones. There are also many other primates and birds in the park that you will see while hiking. You will also Visit the Lwiro Sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees and other primates that were rescued from poachers. You can closely study a number of these and appreciate the conservation Journey that the country has been through.

The 3 days Kahuzi Biega Tour is very exclusive for lowland gorilla trekking and highly recommended for those who prefer less crowded primate safari adventures. The tour starts and ends in Kigali Rwanda because Kigali International Airport is the safest and most convenient airport to access eastern Congo. The 3-day Kahuzi Biega Tour passes through the Nyungwe forest in Rwanda one of the oldest forests in east and central Africa. Here you will enjoy great scenic views and see some primates.

You will spend the 2 nights in Bakuvu with great views of Lake Kivu one of the Rift Valley lakes. Day 1: Transfer to Bukavu - Democratic Republic of Congo

Your driver guide will pick you up from your Kigali hotel for a transfer to Bukavu via the Cyangugu border. You will pass via the Rwandan countryside with en route stopovers at the Nyanza Palace for a cultural tour and Butare Museum for a brief Visit. You will also have a stopover for a lunch break and proceed via Nyungwe Forest to Cyangugu where your Congo guide will take you to your Hotel for a rest. Dinner & Overnight at Panorama Hotel

Day 2: Lowland Gorilla Trekking & Visit Lwiro

After breakfast at the Hotel, you will be driven to the park headquarters for a briefing about the lowland gorilla trek. From here you will proceed to the park hiking for 2 to 3 hours amidst sighting of a number of wildlife including birds. The park has 2 habituated gorilla families that are open to tourism. These include the Chimanuka and Bonneanne that also have young ones. You will track one of these gorilla families and will be allowed to stay in the presence of the gorillas for one hour. After this great encounter, you will return for a visit to Lwiro sanctuary where you will meet resident wildlife species. In the evening you will return to your Hotel in Bukavu for Dinner and Overnight at Panorama Hotel

Day 3: Departure

You will have breakfast and be driven to the border where you will cross over and have a relaxed drive back to Kigali. Arrive in the evening for a drop off at the hotel or airport for departure depending on schedule.
