On the 8-Day Rwanda Primates Discovery Journey, you will explore the major primates in Rwanda. Start with chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park. Nyungwe National Park is home to chimpanzees and 12 other primate species.
The park is very diverse and it is from this basis that it was inscribed as a World Heritage Site. Apart from chimpanzee trekking, you can engage in many other activities here including nature walks. Nyungwe National Park is also Rwanda's most important bird area and the best place for birding. After the chimpanzee trekking safari in Nyungwe, you will proceed with your 8-Day Rwanda Primates Discovery Journey to Volcanoes National Park.
Volcanoes National Park has the highest gorilla population in the Virunga massif. The park has 12 habituated gorilla families and you will track to one of these families. You will hike the forested mountains and stay in the presence of the gorillas for an hour. Golden monkeys are other rare primates in Volcanoes National Park. You will also enjoy the golden monkey trekking adventure. End your safari at the beach in Gisenyi visiting Napoleon Island in Lake Kivu.

Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Your Hotel
You will be picked up from the airport upon arrival and driven to your Kigali hotel for a rest. In case you arrive early and are not tired can go on a Kigali city tour to visit the genocide memorial. This was recently inscribed as a World Heritage Site and is among the 5 World Heritage Sites in Rwanda. Meals and Overnight at Mille Collines Hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast at your Kigali Hotel, you will then depart for Nyungwe National Park located in southwestern Rwanda with en route stopovers at the Nyanza Palace and Butare Museum. You will also have a stopover for a lunch break and then proceed to Nyungwe arriving in the evening. Meals and Overnight at Emeraude Kivu Resort.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
After breakfast, you will go for chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest where you will meet chimpanzee man's closest primates. You will also see other wildlife species including birds and other primates. In the afternoon you will go for a canopy walk along East Africa's only canopy walkway. Day 4: Nature walk and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You will go for a Nature walk in the forest where you will see a number of birds and other primates in Nyungwe forest. You will then return for a transfer to Volcanoes National Park arriving in the evening for meals and overnight at Da Vinci lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking & Cultural Visit
On this most anticipated day, you will head to the park headquarters early morning after breakfast. You will be briefed about the gorilla trek and then head to the forest in a 2 to 6-hour trek as you see other wildlife species. Once you get to the gorillas stay in their presence for an hour and later be brought back to the park headquarters. In the evening you will take a cultural visit where you will discover more about the Rwandan local culture. Meals and Overnight at Da Vinci Lodge.
Day 6: Golden Monkey Trek & Transfer to Gisenyi
After breakfast be taken for another briefing about golden monkey tracking after which you will proceed to the forest. You will meet the golden monkeys that are among the rare primate species only living in the Virunga massif. You will see other wildlife species in the park and later return for a transfer to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu. Meals and Overnight at Paradis Malahide.
Day 7: Coffee Experience & Singing Fishermen Experience
You will have breakfast at your Hotel and go for a coffee experience and get a chance to taste Rwandan-made coffee. Have great views of the lake including Napoleon Island. Return for lunch and rest at the hotel. In the evening you have an experience with the singing fishermen. Meals and Overnight at Paradis Malahide.
Day 8: Transfer to Kigali for City Tour and departure
On this last day, you will have a relaxed drive back to Kigali. Arrive in time for lunch and a city tour in case you missed it on the first day. You can later be driven back to your hotel or the airport for departure on the schedule.
