The reserve stretches along the border with Tanzania and is connected to the Serengeti ecosystem where the wildebeest Migration takes place. Every year millions of wildebeests, zebras, and the topi cross the Mara and Talek Rivers as they migrate from Serengeti to Masai Mara.

The wildebeest migration has one of the highest animal concentrations of any savanna wildlife destination. This migration and River crossings alone are amazing experiences to be part of when in Masai Mara. Masai Mara also has a high Big cats population offering great chances of seeing lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

Samburu National Park is another must-visit Kenya wildlife adventure destination. This is located in Northern Kenya and is most famous for its rare wildlife species. Notable wildlife species in Samburu include the Oryx Beisa, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, and gerenuk. Kenya wildlife adventures can be enjoyed at any time of the year. The months from June to September are the peak tourist season months. They are also dry with nominal rainfall disturbances. You can easily spot different wildlife species during the dry season as they gather at waterholes to refresh.

Game drives, nature walks, and overall wildlife adventures are easily executed in the dry season. During that time you can get the best golden hour moments of the sunrise and sunset.

The wet season months from March to May and October to November are equally great for Kenya wildlife adventures. The rains favor the growth of lush vegetation, offering fresh pasture for the herbivores. In turn, the animals only move a short distance to access food and can easily be spotted. The green vegetation beautifies the scenery offering the best scenic photography moments.

Other East African Adventures

The East African region has other destinations other than that offer unforgettable wildlife adventures. Uganda for example has primates including mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. It is the best primate trekking destination in the region because of its numbers and diversity.

Chimpanzee trekking is done in Kibale National Park. The park is located in western Uganda and has the highest primate population.
