The 1-day Mountain Gorilla tour starts with a pick-up from the hotel in Kigali at 4:30 a.m. From here you are transferred to Volcanoes National Park to Catch up with the briefing at 7:00 a.m. During the briefing, you are told the dos and don'ts while in the presence of the Mountain gorillas. You then proceed to the forested mountains hiking for 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Once you meet the gorillas you are allowed in their presence for an hour learning more about them. After the remarkable encounter, you are brought back to the park headquarters and awarded your certificates of participation. Later you are driven back to Kigali for a drop-off at the airport or hotel depending on the schedule.

The 1-day gorilla tour is recommended for those with limited time in Kigali but would like to have gorilla trekking experiences. In case you are staying in Musanze or in Gisenyi you can still manage to do the 1-day gorilla tour. Here you would have to be picked up at 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. respectively.

Just like all the gorilla trekking adventures, you would have to wear appropriately for the gorilla trek. Strong hiking shoes, gaiters, waterproof pants, and long-sleeved shirts are highly recommended. This is because the trek is done in the forested mountains where the trekking trails are wet and muddy in the morning hours. Rainfall in the region is also not predictable, especially in the wet season, and can occur at any time of the day.
