In the 4-Day Mgahinga Gorilla Tour, you will visit Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda for mountain gorilla and golden monkey trekking. Mgahinga Gorilla Park is part of the Virunga massif and has two of the eight Virunga mountains. In these mountains are mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, and many other wildlife species. There is only one habituated mountain gorilla family in Mgahinga Gorilla Park which makes gorilla trekking experiences here exclusive. The gorilla family in Mgahinga is called Nyakagezi and has 3 silverbacks.

Golden monkeys are the other major primates you will see in the 4-Day Mgahinga Gorilla Tour. Golden monkeys are endemic to the Virunga Massif and Mgahinga gorilla park is therefore among the few destinations in East Africa where you can see them. They also live in families and mainly inhabit the bamboo zones. You will see them mostly going by their daily routine.

You will end your 4 Days Mgahinga Gorilla Tour with a canoe ride along Lake Mutanda. Here you will visit the punishment island where you will learn about the history and later return to your lodge. Full Tour Package

Day 1: Transfer to Southwestern Uganda (5 hours’ drive)

You will be picked up from Kigali international airport upon arrival or Kigali Hotel and drive northwards across the border to Kisoro in southwestern Uganda. This drive will take you a 4 to 5 hours’ drive. You will have great en route scenic views and have stop overs for photography if you want to and proceed to Kisoro for Meals and overnight at Lake Mulehe Safari lodge

Day 2: Gorilla trekking & Community Visit

In the morning, assemble at the Mgahinga Gorilla Park Park headquarters for briefing from the park rangers about the dos and don'ts while with the gorillas. Proceed for the memorable adventure in the forest, an activity that may take 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the animals. Meet and stay with the animals for a maximum of one hour, then descend to the park headquarters and then to your Lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the evening, you will go for a community walk and then head back to your lodge for a rest. Meals and Overnight at Lake Mulehe Safari lodge

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking and Canoe Ride

In the morning, you will go for golden monkey tracking, where you will encounter other monkey species. Golden monkeys are very rare primates that are endemic to the Virunga volcanoes area. You will then have a lunch break and in the afternoon have a canoe ride along lake Mutanda. Later proceed to your lodge. Meals and overnight at Lake Mulehe Safari lodge

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali for a city tour & Departure

After breakfast, you will have a relaxed drive back to Kigali arriving early enough for a Kigali city tour and visiting the genocide museum, local markets, and other places of interest. You will later be dropped off at the airport for departure depending on the schedule.
